Marriage License Application
This office handles all court-related administration in the areas of marriage licenses, probate and estates, adoptions, and guardianships. We, also, serve as the collection agent for the PA Inheritance Tax owed by decedents that live in Clearfield County. The Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans' Court is a dual office responsible for court-related and non-court-related activities.
The Clearfield County Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans' Court is pleased to offer computer access to its official records database. Two different products are available. Pick whichever one suits your needs. The Landex Remote software is a very comprehensive search tool for the frequent searcher. Search criteria are identical to the software in the Courthouse. To subscribe, please visit the Landex Remote website. The Landex Webstore software is a basic search tool for the infrequent searcher. Searches may be performed across multiple counties at the same time. Searches may be limited or expanded based on county, instrument type, and municipality. Basic information will be retrieved. Register of Wills-Clerk of Orphans' Court
Marriage licenses are on file from 1885 to the present; the complete marriage license index is computerized. Estates are on file from 1832 to the present.
Estates are indexed on the computer from 1990 to the present. Estates are scanned on the computer from 12-1-98 to the present. Birth and death records are here from 1893 through 1905. Certified copies are $5 each. Birth and death records after 1905, can be located at:

Birth records are $20 and death records are $9 for each certified copy from the State Adoptions are on file from August 1925 to the present. Before that, they were filed in the Prothonotary's office. All adoptions are closed to the general public. After completion, only the Judge can open a file.
Marriage License Procedure
To apply for a Marriage License in Pennsylvania, you must appear in person, together, in the Clerk of Orphans' Court Office in any County seat. The cost for a license in Clearfield County is $50 (cash only). There is a three-day waiting period from the time you apply to the time you can be married. The license is good for 60 days.
Either applicant belonging to the military is exempt from the waiting period.
If either applicant has been divorced, an original or certified copy of the divorce decree is needed before the Marriage License can be issued.
A death certificate is needed if a previous spouse has died.
If either applicant is under eighteen (18) years of age, a Parental Consent Form must be signed by the custodial parent/parents and notarized. These forms are available upon request. If either applicant is under sixteen (16) years of age, along with the Parental Consent Form, the couple must make an appointment with a Clearfield County Judge to get his approval before the Marriage License can be issued.

J.C.P. - Judicial Computer Project Fee is a $41.25 charge imposed by the State for all Petitions for Grant of Letters, Petitions for Adoptions or Terminations, Petitions for Appointment of Guardians or Incompetencies or Minors, and Inter Vivos Trusts.
Fees for similar services not herein specifically scheduled, shall be charged on the same basis as those scheduled.
All documents filed over 10 pages will be charged $2 per page thereafter.
